New York: During discussions on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan has called on United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to enforce the Security Council’s resolutions regarding Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing the need for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination. The prime minister also condemned what he described as a genocidal campaign by Israel against Palestinians, urging global leaders to strive for a peaceful resolution and hold Israel accountable.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Prime Minister Sharif expressed grave concerns about India’s policies in the occupied Kashmir region and stressed the need for a peaceful solution to ensure stability in South Asia. He highlighted the importance of implementing the UN’s resolutions to support the Kashmiri people’s rights.
In the same meeting, Sharif addressed the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine. He called for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire and supported the creation of a sovereign Palestinian state, holding Israel accountable for its actions against Palestinians.
The prime minister also touched upon the broader issues of rising Islamophobia worldwide and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to promoting international peace. He expressed strong support for the UN’s “Summit of the Future” initiative, which he believes will help developing countries achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and climate objectives. Additionally, he underlined Pakistan’s candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the term 2025-26, as a part of its continued commitment to international peace and security.
