PPI Original Text (PPI-OT) – Italy will continue to extend its economic presence in Pakistan: Envoy

Karachi, May 28, 2012 (PPI-OT): The Ambassador of Italy to Pakistan H.E Mr. Vincenzo Prati has said that Italy being a close friend of Pakistan will continue to extend its economic presence in Pakistan, he was speaking at farewell dinner organized in his honor by Landi Renzo Pakistan.

The Ambassador, during his tenure, recalled the efforts of his embassy in Islamabad to promote Italian investments, employment and technology transfer through its continuous dialogue with the Pakistani authorities.

Mr. Prati, who will soon be leaving Pakistan at the end of his four years’ tenure, on the occasion of a farewell gathering arranged by Landi Renzo in his honor spoke about the current issues specially the CNG industry is facing in Pakistan.

Talking about possible ways out for the industry, the Ambassador hoped that a positive solution may be found and Landi Renzo would be able to continue operating in Pakistani market.

Earlier, Mr. Alberto Barbieri, Chief Executive Landi Renzo Pakistan, underscored the billions of rupees invested by his company in Pakistan. He recalled the ban to import CNG kits and cylinders imposed by the Economic Coordination Committee on December 15, and the impact it is having on the CNG industry.

He also talked about the proposals Landi Renzo and its partners supported by the Embassy of Italy forwarded to the Pakistani authorities. The proposals include suggestions on the quota of CNG kits that is to be locally manufactured and sold in local market, and partial removal of the ban on the exports of kits.

While supporting the proposals of Mr. Alberto Barbieri CEO of Landi Renzo, the ambassador said that the Italian authorities are closely following any outcome of the negotiations between Landi Renzo and the Pakistani authorities.

The farewell gathering was attended by Italian Consul Mr Roberto Franceschinis, the First Secretary of the Embassy of Italy Dr. Federico Bianchi, Mr. Jamil Ahmed Director Corporate planning of Pak-Suzuki and others.
