President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Commemorates 18th Anniversary of Devastating 2005 Earthquake

Islamabad: On the 18th anniversary of the 2005 earthquake, President Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry of Azad Jammu and Kashmir reflected on the catastrophic event that affected Muzaffarabad, Bagh, Poonch, and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The earthquake resulted in significant loss of life and extensive damage to both public and private properties.

According to President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, President Chaudhry recalled the profound impact of the disaster, emphasizing the indelible memories of those who perished and the ongoing efforts in rehabilitation and rebuilding. He acknowledged that while the loss of lives is irreplaceable, the government’s endeavors in post-disaster recovery have seen substantial progress with the support of both national and international partners.

The President expressed gratitude towards the countries that assisted Azad Kashmir during the aftermath, including Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, the United Kingdom, European countries, and China. He highlighted the crucial roles played by these nations along with the local armed forces in the relief, rescue, and rehabilitation phases.

On this solemn anniversary, President Chaudhry reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing disaster preparedness to mitigate the effects of potential future calamities. He also extended his prayers and remembrance for those who lost their lives in the 2005 earthquake, ensuring their memory is honored and not forgotten.
