Prime Minister of Netherlands calls on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif

New York, September 26, 2014 (PPI-OT): The Prime Minister of Netherlands, Mr. Mark Rutte called on Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif at the United Nations Headquarters here today. The Dutch Prime Minister expressed grief over the devastations caused by the recent floods. He said that Netherland was very good at water management and offered assistance in this regard.

The Prime Minister apprised his Dutch counterpart of the Government’s efforts to eliminate terrorism including the ongoing military operation in the tribal areas. “We have hit hard” he said and that the operation was going on successfully. He said that a large number of people from that region were displaced and has to be rehabilitated.

During the meeting both sides reviewed the existing bilateral relations and expressed the desire to further strengthen trade and investment relations particularly in the fields of energy, water management and agriculture.

The Prime Minister said that there were already a number of large Dutch companies present in Pakistan and that more companies need to be encouraged to invest and benefit from the favorable investment climate.

Prime Minister Sharif extended him an invitation to visit Pakistan to which he said that he would be glad to visit. Special Assistant to PM, Mr. Tariq Fatemi, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN Masood Khan and Additional Secretary, PM’s Office, Mr. Fawad Hassan Fawad were also present during the meeting.
