Prime Minister Reaffirms Commitment to Peaceful Nuclear Technology

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reiterated Pakistan’s dedication to utilizing nuclear technology for sustainable development. During discussions with Rafael Mariano, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), in Islamabad on Wednesday, Sharif emphasized the importance of nuclear energy in addressing climate change challenges.

According to a statement by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Prime Minister praised the IAEA’s efforts in promoting nuclear energy as a viable solution for climate issues. He highlighted Pakistan’s longstanding partnership with the IAEA, noting its status as one of the Agency’s founding members.

Shehbaz Sharif detailed Pakistan’s advancements in nuclear power generation, industrial development, healthcare, and agriculture, attributing these achievements to the collaborative efforts with the IAEA. These initiatives have significantly contributed to the country’s socio-economic growth.

The Prime Minister expressed a commitment to further enhance cooperation with the IAEA, aiming to fully exploit nuclear technology for peaceful purposes. He underscored the importance of these efforts in delivering benefits not only to Pakistan but also to the global community.

Rafael Mariano, the Director General of the IAEA, acknowledged Pakistan’s positive and enduring engagement with the Agency. He assured that the IAEA would continue to collaborate with Pakistan in the same cooperative spirit.
