PM Shehbaz Pledges Continued Reform Efforts Amid Economic Recovery

Dubai: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reiterated his government’s commitment to maintaining momentum in reforms, particularly in vital areas such as tax reform, energy sector efficiency, and private sector development.

According to a statement by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, during a meeting with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva at the World Government Summit 2025 in Dubai, Prime Minister Sharif highlighted the progress facilitated by the IMF’s Extended Fund Facility (EFF). He emphasized the significant role the EFF has played in stabilizing Pakistan’s economy and setting it on a path toward long-term recovery.

Prime Minister Sharif assured Georgieva of Pakistan’s dedication to economic prudence and sustainability, viewing these as crucial for achieving inclusive and sustained growth.

Kristalina Georgieva commended Pakistan’s effective implementation of the IMF-supported program, noting the country’s improving economic performance with increasing growth and decreasing inflation. She acknowledged Pakistan’s trajectory towards economic recovery and praised Prime Minister Sharif’s leadership and personal dedication to advancing the country’s reform agenda.

Georgieva reaffirmed the IMF’s ongoing support for Pakistan’s reform initiatives, stressing the importance of sustained fiscal discipline, structural reforms, and good governance to ensure enduring economic stability and growth.

In a separate message on his X handle, Prime Minister Sharif expressed appreciation for the IMF’s continued support. He reflected on his meeting with Georgieva, noting their mutual commitment to achieving sustainable growth and financial stability. He stated that Pakistan is transitioning from macroeconomic stability to a path of sustained economic growth and prosperity.
