Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi chairs briefing on National Vocational and Technical Training Commission

Islamabad, February 01, 2018 (PPI-OT): Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi today chaired a briefing on National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) at Prime Minister’s Office. Engr. Muhammad Baligh-ur-Rehman, Minister for Education, Mr. Aamir Ashraf Khawaja, Secretary Education, Mr. Zulfiqar Ahmed Cheema, Executive Director NAVTTC and senior officers were present during the meeting. Executive Director NAVTTC briefed the Prime Minister about the role and functions of NVATCC for high standard vocational training and skill development of the youth. Mr. Cheema informed the Prime Minister that as a result of concerted efforts by the Commission, four-fold increase in the number of trainees has been achieved during the year 2017-18.

He said that at present approximately 100,000 youth were being trained in various vocations keeping in view of market demands and emerging trends. He also shared with the Prime Minister the future plans of NAVTTC in view of new jobs opportunities being created after the CPEC project. The Prime Minister appreciated the efforts of NAVTTC in transforming raw talent into a skilled and productive workforce.

The Prime Minister emphasized upon the need for optimum utilization of available resources and infrastructure for the purpose of expanding NAVTTC activities so as to enable greater number of youth to benefit from the skill development program especially under the Prime Minister’s Youth Skill Development Program. The Prime Minister also advised NAVTTC for further strengthening of its partnership with the private sector so as to fulfill market demand and ensure quality vocational training at various institutes across the country.
