Prime Minister Sharif Urges Swift Action Against Tax Evaders Amid Economic Reforms

Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has called for an expedited crackdown on tax evaders as he led a meeting in Islamabad to evaluate the nation’s economic condition. Emphasizing the importance of collective responsibility for national progress, Sharif warned that those avoiding taxes and their accomplices would face justice, ensuring accountability as the country aims for economic stability.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Prime Minister highlighted significant economic achievements, noting a bullish stock market and a substantial reduction in inflation from 38 percent to 7 percent. Sharif stressed the government’s commitment to prioritizing public relief and fulfilling promises, citing a decline in interest rates from 22 to 15 percent as a catalyst for increased business activities.

Sharif also pointed to a rise in foreign investor confidence and an increase in foreign exchange reserves, driven by higher domestic exports and record remittances. He commended the Punjab government for its agricultural reforms, marking them as landmark achievements.

During the meeting, officials provided updates on the economic situation, inflation levels, and measures against tax evaders. The Finance Ministry also briefed the attendees on discussions with IMF delegations.
