Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to Address Key Global Issues at UN General Assembly

Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif is set to participate in the high-level segment of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York from September 23 to 27, 2024. His agenda includes addressing significant global issues such as the Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir disputes, economic inequities, climate change, and Islamophobia.

According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in his address scheduled for September 27, 2024, the Prime Minister will reassert Pakistan’s dedication to multilateralism and the United Nations’ role in promoting worldwide peace, security, and prosperity. He will call for addressing longstanding topics on the UN Security Council’s agenda and advocate for reforms in the international financial system.

The Prime Minister’s itinerary also includes participation in a “High-Level Meeting on Existential Threat posed by Sea-level Rise” and a UN Security Council Open Debate on “Leadership for Peace.” Moreover, he will hold bilateral meetings with world leaders, including the UN Secretary-General and the President of the General Assembly, to discuss global strategies for sustainable development.

The session presents a vital opportunity for Pakistan to voice its positions on crucial regional and international issues. As Pakistan prepares to join the UN Security Council for the 2025-26 term, the Prime Minister will highlight the country’s commitment to the UN Charter, aiming to prevent conflicts, foster peace, and enhance global prosperity.
