Promotion of Education, top Priority of the Present Government Says National Assembly Speaker

Islamabad, October 04, 2012 (PPI-OT): Dr. Fehmida Mirza, Speaker has urged the nation to pledge for enhancing the respect and dignity of teachers in the society as ordained by our religious, social and cultural values. She said that we should take all measures to restore dignity, honour and respect of the teachers in society to promote education in real sense. She said this in her message on world’s Teacher Day observed worldwide under the auspices of United Nation on 5th October.

Dr. Fehmida Mirza said that teachers are the greatest builders because they give vision and direction to the youth who are future of a nation. She said that the teachers serve as a guide to deliver people from darkness of ignorance. The teachers besides teaching, also concentrate on promoting wisdom, integrity, character and tolerance among the students so that they could become good citizens, she added.

The Speaker said that a nation can only prosper if it gives due respect and honour to its teachers. She regretted that in the past teachers had been neglected in our society. She assured the teaching community that they were important members of the society. She said teaching has been universally acclaimed as one of the noblest of professions.

She said that promotion of education was top priority of the present government. She said that in 18th Amendment of the Constitution the Ministry of Education has been devolved to provinces and share of the provinces in NFC Award also enhanced so that they could spent more in health and education sectors. She called upon the provincial governments to pay special attention towards the uplift of education and welfare of teachers.

She also called upon the civil society organizations and individuals to come forward and supplement the efforts of the government in this noble cause. She also urged the teachers to work hard and acquire the latest knowledge and skills in order to better guide and train the students so that they could play an effective role in nation building.
