Protesters demand Kashmiri detainees’ release

Srinagar, April 16, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the relatives of the Kashmiris, who are lodged in various jails of India, have held a protest demonstration in Srinagar to press the authorities for their release.

The protest which was held at Press Enclave in Srinagar demanded the security for the Kashmiri prisoners as laid down in the Geneva Convention.

Holding placards bearing names of Lateef Ahmad Waja and Mirza Nisar Hussain Ahmad Waja of Khanqah Shamswari, lodged at Jaipur jail in Rajasthan, the protesters raised slogans demanding respect for human rights and dignity of prisoners.

“The court has acquitted them in Lajpat Nagar bomb blast case. But still they have not been released. It is a grave violation of international law. We demand their immediate release”, said protestors. They said that these inmates were being harassed and tortured by jail authorities.

“In Jaipur jail, the prisoners are beaten unless they fall unconscious. They have suffered serious injuries and have been shifted to some unknown place,” said a protestor. The protester also demanded the release of all political prisoners detained in different jails.
