Protests erupt in Kulgam against Police highhandedness

Srinagar, January 20, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, people took to the streets in Kulgam against the highhandedness of Indian police. Locals told media men that the police thrashed and arrested the family members of a civilian, Hamid Sheikh, during night hours.

The protesters blocked the Kulgam-Islamabad road, raised anti-India slogans and demanded release of arrested people including two 20-year-old girls. They revealed the identity of arrested family members as Shafiqa (20), Hina (20), Mohammad Iqbal Sheikh, Mushtaq Ahmad Sheikh, Tariq Ahmad Sheikh and Rashid Sheikh.

One of the family members said that during night police raided their house at Laru in Kulgam and tortured the inmates. “Police raided our house and tortured us badly and after two hours they arrested our family members including our two girls,” he added.
