Punjab CM Unveils New Solar Initiative to Transform Agriculture

Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has inaugurated the Agriculture Tubewell Solarization project, aimed at reducing energy costs for farmers by converting tubewells to solar power.

According to a statement by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the initiative launched in Lahore involves a subsidy program where the Punjab Government will provide financial assistance to farmers. The subsidies include five lac rupees for a 10-kilowatt solar system, seven point five lac rupees for a 15-kilowatt system, and ten lac rupees for a 20-kilowatt system.

The first phase of the project will involve the selection of eight thousand tubewells across the province through a balloting process. These will be converted to operate on solar energy, marking a significant step towards sustainable agriculture.

During the launch event, CM Nawaz emphasized the importance of completing the solarization process for the selected tubewells by June this year, underscoring the government’s commitment to renewable energy solutions.
