Punjab Govt to Convert All OLMT Stations to Solar Power

Lahore: The Punjab government has announced plans to transition all stations and stops of the Orange Line Metro Train (OLMT) to solar power. This strategic move aims to significantly reduce operational costs and lessen the financial burden on the government exchequer.

According to Radio Pakistan, a 1.6-megawatt solar power plant will be installed to supply electricity to all OLMT stations. The electricity generated from this solar facility will power essential components such as electric stairs, stops, and other operational needs of the train service.

This initiative is expected to alleviate the annual subsidy burden on the Punjab government, as billions of rupees are currently allocated for this purpose. By converting to solar energy, the system is projected to save millions of rupees monthly in electricity bills.
