Lahore: Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr. Usman Anwar, has announced a series of welfare measures aimed at enhancing the well-being of the police force in 2024. The initiatives include over 5,000 promotions based on merit and seniority, the signing of eight MOUs with educational institutions and hospitals, and the conversion of 599 police stations to Special Initiative Police Station Protocols.
According to Punjab Police, a significant financial commitment was made to support the force, with Rs. 28 crore 19 lakh allocated for medical assistance and over Rs. 78 crore 10 lakh disbursed for educational scholarships for police employees’ children. The construction of 39 Smart Police Stations has begun across various districts, and 19 new police posts have been approved for the Kacha areas of Rahim Yar Khan and Rajanpur, alongside the initiation of 30 border posts in Dera Ghazi Khan, Layyah, Mianwali, and Bhakkar.
The initiatives also include the approval of a Hard Area Allowance for personnel working in challenging regions and the establishment of an Artificial Intelligence Center within the Special Branch Punjab. Furthermore, a district office for the Special Branch in Murree has been completed, and the construction of a hostel for female personnel in the Qurban Lines is underway. The Punjab Government has approved 30 plots for relocating rental police stations to owned buildings.
Police service centers across the province have served over 2.6 million citizens, and more than 19 million driving licenses have been issued. The Meesaq Centers have provided services to over 85,000 minority citizens. Financially, over Rs. 232 crore was spent on the welfare of police officers and employees, and more than Rs. 246 crore was approved as financial assistance for families of officers who died in service. The families of martyrs received 170 plots and Rs. 3 crore 60 lakh for house construction, while Rs. 8 crore was spent on treating 241 injured personnel.
