Qaim Ali Shah presides meeting regarding construction of low cost houses under Shaheed Benazir Bhutto housing programme

Karachi, December 17, 2012 (PPI-OT): Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah today presided a high-level meeting regarding construction of Low Cost Houses under Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Housing Programme, held at Chief Minister House.

The meeting was attended by Sindh Minister for Finance Syed Murad Ali Shah, Minister for Law and Housing Mr. Muhammad Ayaz Soomro, Sindh Information Minister Mr. Sharjeel Enam Memon, Senior Member BOR Mr. Shahzor Shamoon, Additional Chief Secretary Finance Mr. Arif Ahmed Khan, Principal Secretary to C.M Mr. Muhammad Siddique Memon, Chairman SBBHS Mr. Manzar Abbas Shah and others.

The meeting discussed the contents of the programme under the vision and policies of present elected government and housing facilities for poor and needy people under moto – ROTI, KAPRA aur MAKAN.

Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that the government of peoples party has always served the people without any distinction and promises made by the leadership for provision of houses has always been fulfilled. Chief Minister Sindh announced that 10,000 two roomed houses will be supplied/allotted to poor and needy people/families throughout province within 3-months.

He added that as per commitment, 50,000 plots are being provided to poor, deserving and needy people, and first 5000 plots for Karachi will be distributed/allotted to needy and poorest people on birth anniversary of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto on 5th January 2012.

Chief Minister Sindh further said that the houses constructed by the Governments of Turkey and Iran, will be distributed and allotted to flood/rain affected people, of Thatta, Badin, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Kashmore and Khairpur districts.

Chief Minister Sindh directed that the process of construction of low cost houses be completed immediately so as to meet the challenge and houses are distributed within 3- months. He also directed all Advisors to Chief Minister Sindh to visit various districts and coordinate and monitor the work.

Earlier, the Chairman of SBBHC in his detailed briefing informed that the cell was established in 2008 with an allocation of Rs: 3 billion and decided to construct low cost houses instead of “ model villages”. He said that so far 400 Energy efficient and cyclone resistant houses has been completed in the coastal belt of Badin, Thatta and Karachi.

Besides 200- houses have been completed in districts of Larkana, Khairpur, Sukkur, Shikarpur and Jacobabad, while 91- houses have been constructed in village JANO-JI, Deh Saleh Pat, Sukkur as the whole village was burnt by fire.

He further informed that SBBHC took over possession of a project of 368 flats built by Pakistan Housing Authority at Landhi Karachi and President Mr. Asif Ali Zardari gave away allotment letters and keys to 155 heirs of the martyrs of 18th October and 27th December.

Chairman SBBHC further informed that it was decided that out of remaining 213 flats, BHC should retain -83 flats, while the possession of 130 flats be handed over to S,GA and CD. He added that in first phase, 5, 611 beneficiary families have been identified/ selected by elected representatives.
