Rana Tanveer Hussain Directs Provinces to Enforce Sugar Price Control

Islamabad: Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain has directed all provincial governments to strictly enforce the wholesale and retail prices of sugar, with daily monitoring and necessary action against any violations. He gave these directions while chairing a meeting in Islamabad to address concerns regarding sugar prices and ensure uniform enforcement of agreed rates across the country.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Minister firmly rebuffed claims of discrepancies in sugar pricing, stating that the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association has already agreed to set the wholesale price at 159 rupees per kilogram. He emphasized that provinces must ensure compliance with this agreement to prevent unnecessary price fluctuations.

The Minister stated that the wholesale price of sugar is 159 rupees per kilogram, and the retail price is 164 rupees per kilogram. He noted that any deviation from the agreed sugar prices is unacceptable.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Secretary Food reported that the ex-mill price of sugar in the province stands at 164 rupees per kilogram. Rana Tanveer Hussain stressed that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa authorities must enforce the agreed wholesale price as per the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association’s commitment.
