New Delhi: A significant rise in crimes against women, particularly sexual violence, has been documented in India over the past decade during the tenure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s BJP-led government.
According to Kashmir Media Service, data from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) indicates a troubling escalation in incidents of violence against women since 2014. Specifically, crimes have increased from 337,922 cases in 2014 to 371,503 in 2020, with Mumbai witnessing a stark 235% surge in rape cases over nearly a decade.
The NCRB reports an alarming frequency of sexual assaults, averaging 86 women per day, and notes that crimes against women occur at a rate of 29 incidents per hour. High-profile cases, including gang rapes and assaults on minors, have been reported across various states, underscoring a pervasive issue nationwide.
The ongoing challenge in resolving these cases points to systemic issues within India’s judicial system, leaving many victims without justice and heightening concerns over safety and the effectiveness of law enforcement in addressing such crimes.
