RSS Members Convicted for 2008 Murder of Muslim Man in Kerala

Trivandrum: In a landmark ruling, a Kerala court has sentenced four Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) members to life imprisonment for the 2008 murder of Mohammad Kunhi, a local Muslim community leader.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the crime took place on April 18, 2008, in Kasaragod district where Kunhi, the 56-year-old president of Bilal Mosque, was brutally attacked. He was intercepted by the convicted individuals on Gudde Temple Road as he headed to prayer. The assault was witnessed by his son, Shihab, as two of the attackers held Kunhi while the others fatally stabbed him. This murder was part of a series of violent acts within the region over a five-day period.

The conviction was handed down by Kasaragod Additional Sessions Court – II Judge Priya K, marking the district’s first successful prosecution of a communal murder in over a decade. Special Public Prosecutor Adv CK Sreedharan noted the significance of this case amidst ongoing religious tensions in India.
