SAARC Chamber of Commerce suggests South Asian cleaning mechanism to augment trade and investment flow in the region

Islamabad, April 22, 2013 (PPI-OT): SAARC CCI has suggested for South Asian cleaning mechanism of a well organized South Asian clearing union to augment the trade and investment flow in the region. This was stated by Mr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney, President, SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SAARC CCI) while addressing at Roundtable on “Roundtable on Financial cooperation in South Asia” held in Kathmandu, Nepal.

The experts from South Asia were of the opinion that a viable financial cooperation will not only accelerate the development process of trade, but also create cross border investment opportunities. Prior to that, business leaders of South Asia met in 57th Executive Committee and 18th General Assembly meeting of SAARC CCI hosted by Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI). H.E Secretary General of South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation (SAARC) addressed the Executive Committee Members of SAARC CCI and assures the private sector the fullest cooperation on issues, hindering trade in South Asia. While appreciating initiative of SAARC CCI, H.E Secretary General advised to private sector for effective lobbying with governments of SAARC member countries.

The Executive Committee meeting was chaired by President, SAARC CCI, Mr Vikramjit Singh Sahney and attend by Former Presidents SAARC CCI, Mr. Annisul Huq, Mr. Tariq Sayeed and Mr. Dasho Ugen Tsechup Dorji, Mr. Pradeep Kumar Shrestha, Vice President, SAARC CCI, Mr. Iftikhar Ali Malik, Vice President, SAARC CCI, Mr. Azrakhsh Hafezi, Chairman International Fair Committee, ACCI, Md. Jashim Uddin, Vice President, Bangladesh, and more than 40 committee members from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

The leaders of South Asia also organized “Strategy Roundtable on SCCI” in which core issues force by private sector were discussed at length Pakistan delegation. Mr. Saurabh Jyoti from Nepal has been handed over the chair of Young Entrepreneurs Forum (YEF) from Mr. Shahrukh Malik, Director Guard Group, Pakistan. Pakistan delegation comprising of Mr. Traiq Sayeed (Chairman Accounts Committee and Founder and Former President SAARC CCI), Mr. Iftikhar ali Malik (Vice President SAARC CCI), Mr. Zubair Ahmed Malik ( President FPCCI), Mr. Haroon Rashid, Shahzada Alam, Mr. Fazal Elahi, Mr. Hameed Akhtar Chadda, Enginner Abdul Jabbar Memon, Mr. Zahid Maqbool, Mian Mahmood Ahmed, Mr. Iqbal Tabish (Secretary General SAARC CCI) and Mr. Mumtaz Khan, left for Khatmandu to attend 57th EC and 18th GA meeting.
