Karachi: In an unprecedented move, Saudi Arabia’s national airline, Saudia, has rolled out Apple’s Share Item Location feature to aid passengers, especially those from Pakistan, in tracking and recovering misplaced or delayed baggage. This innovative step is expected to significantly enhance the travel experience for the numerous Pakistani travelers who fly with Saudia.

Through this new service, passengers can generate a secure Share Item Location link via the Find My app on their Apple devices. This link can be submitted through Saudia’s dedicated online platform, allowing for private and secure tracking of luggage equipped with an AirTag or Find My network accessory. The tracking feature is designed to automatically cease once the baggage is retrieved, can be halted manually at any time, and expires after a week.

For Pakistani travelers journeying to or through Saudi Arabia, Saudia’s adoption of this technological advancement signifies its dedication to digital innovation and improving passenger satisfaction through smart, user-focused solutions.

Abdulgader Attiah, the Chief Data and Technology Officer of Saudia Group, emphasized the airline’s commitment to digital transformation, stating, “This integration of Apple’s Share Item Location feature underscores our dedication to providing world-class service and setting new standards in the aviation industry.”

Apple’s Share Item Location relies on the Find My network, a robust, crowdsourced network of over a billion Apple devices that utilizes Bluetooth technology to detect lost items and report their locations back to the owner. The entire process is encrypted end-to-end and maintains user anonymity, ensuring that even Apple or Find My network accessory manufacturers cannot access the item’s location or information.

Travelers can avail themselves of this feature by updating their Apple devices to the latest versions of iOS, iPadOS, or macOS.

This initiative is poised to benefit a substantial number of Pakistani travelers, who frequently opt for Saudia for business, pilgrimage, and leisure trips, by making the process of baggage recovery more effective and secure.
