Srinagar, March 28, 2013 (PPI-OT): Indian army and police have intensified search operations across the Kashmir valley on the pretext of attacks on the troops, but pro-freedom groups and organizations term it as part of India’s fresh strategy to quell anti-India protest demonstrations.
A senior police official told media men in Srinagar that the police had launched operations from north to south of Kashmir including Srinagar.
The police and the CRPF have erected check points and started frisking each and every passerby, the locals complained.
Vehicles entering Srinagar, especially those from Sopore and Kupwara, are being checked. Besides, the personnel of police and paramilitary forces have been conducting surprise checks on vehicles and frisking passengers in and around Srinagar.
The police are also monitoring CCTV footage from the Civil Lines area to keep an eye on the movement of people and vehicles.
Reports received from north Kashmir said that surprise checking was being carried out by police and CRPF on vehicles entering various towns including Baramulla, Kupwara, Sopore and Handwara. Such reports were also received from south Kashmir’s Pulwama, Kulgam, Shopian and Islamabad districts.
Checking of vehicles over past week was also witnessed in Batamalu, Qamarwari, Hyderpora, Safa Kadal, Dal Boulevard, Parimpora, Panthachowk, Nowgam and several other places in Srinagar.
