Several protesters injured in police actions in Baramulla

Srinagar, March 23, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, several persons were injured when Indian police used brute force on peaceful protesters in Baramulla town.

People took to the streets and staged anti-India demonstrations in Baramulla town. The police resorted to brute force and fired pellets to disperse the demonstrators, leaving nine youth injured. One of the injured was shifted to Soura institute of Medical Sciences in Srinagar. Witnesses said that the youth identified as Zubair Ahmad Peer of Khwaja Sahib, Baramulla, was immediately rushed to Srinagar after he received multiple pellet injuries.

The police also fired teargas shells to disperse protesters in Saraf Kadal area of Srinagar.

A demonstration was held in Islamabad town against the crackdown launched by police on pro-freedom leaders and imposition of curbs on people. The demonstration was led by Jammu and Kashmir Ummat-i-Islami Chairman, Qazi Yasir. The demonstrators shouted high-pitched pro-freedom and anti-India slogans.

Addressing on the occasion, Qazi Yasir deplored that India under a well-planned strategy was not allowing the Kashmiris to practice their religion freely. “The curbs are imposed on prayers and people are not allowed to offer prayers in Masajid,” he said.

He condemned the arrest of pro-freedom leaders including Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai and Ayaz Akbar. He demanded release of all political prisoners including Masarrat Aalam Butt, Showkat Ahmed Bakhshi, Ghulam Qadir Butt, Engineer Farooq, Muhammad Shafi Shariyati, Misbah-ul-Islam and Muhammad Ayub Dar. People also held a pro-freedom demonstration in Shopian town.
