Shutdown in Kishtwar area of Jammu region today

Jammu, July 12, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, complete shutdown is being observed in Kishtwar and adjoining areas of Jammu region against the rise in civilian killings across the territory, particularly in the Kashmir Valley. The strike is being observed on the call of Imam of Jamia Masjid, Kishtwar, Farooq Ahmad Kichloo, who is also the head of Muslim Shoura Committee, Kishtwar.

Farooq Ahmad Kichloo in a statement issued in Kishtwar condemned the civilian killings and appealed to the people of Kishtwar to lodge protest by observing complete shutdown. Meanwhile, lawyers associated with Kashmir High Court Bar Association stayed away from various courts in protest against the killings.

On the other hand, the occupation authorities continue to place all resistance leaders either under house detention or in various jails and police stations across Kashmir to prevent them from leading protests against the killing spree unleashed by Indian forces in the territory. Syed Ali Gilani continues to be confined to his house since 2010 while Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed under house confinement, yesterday.

Muhammad Yasin Malik who was detained on July 6, ahead of Burhan Wani’s second martyrdom anniversary, remains in Kothibagh police station in Srinagar. Other Hurriyat leaders including Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, Ghulam Nabi Sumjhi and Muhammad Ashraf Laya were either under house detention or in various police stations.

A police officer confirmed that the crackdowns against Hurriyat leaders were being conducted in the wake of call for a march towards the Martyrs’ Graveyard at Naqshband Sahib in Srinagar, tomorrow, to pay tributes to the martyrs of 13th July, 1931. Intense clashes were witnessed in Soura area of Srinagar between protesters and Indian forces, last night. The troops fired teargas shells on the demonstrators leading to clashes.
