Shutdown observed in Baramulla, Sopore against killings

Srinagar, June 19, 2016 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, normal life in Baramulla and Sopore came to a standstill as people observed shutdown against the killing of two youth during a siege and search operation in Sopore. Two youth Altaf Ahmed Mir and Imtiyaz Ahmed Lone were martyred by troops at Bomai in Sopore on Friday.

Clashes were also reported between the protesting youth and India armed forces. All areas in Sopore observed complete shutdown while clashes were reported in Brath Kalan, the native village of Altaf.

The youth took to the streets and engaged forces in pitched battles throughout the day. Police responded with lathi-charge and tear-gas shelling.

Clashes were also reported from Tujjar area of Sopore while youth also resorted to stone-pelting in main Chowk Sopore and Batpora area. A complete shutdown was also observed in Wusan area, the native village of another martyr Imtiyaz.

Palhallan and Hyderbeigh areas of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district also observed complete strike against the killing. All commercial establishments remained closed for the day while traffic was off the roads.
