Sikh community in IOK welcomes opening of Kartarpur corridor

Srinagar, November 30, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Sikh community of the territory has warmly welcomed the decision of the governments of Pakistan and India to open Kartarpur corridor. The Sikhs in Kashmir have hailed the two governments for taking a decision to facilitate the Sikh pilgrims from India to visit Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur, in Pakistan’s Punjab province.

The President of Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, Budgam, Santpal Singh on behalf of Sikh community of Kashmir in a statement in Srinagar thanked prime ministers of Pakistan and India for opening this road. Senior executive member of Parbandhak Committee, Budgam, Inderjeet Singh in a statement said that the community had been praying for opening of this corridor. “Our long pending demand and a dream has come true,” he added.

The Chairman of All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC), Jagmohan Singh Raina, in a statement in Srinagar also welcomed the opening of Kartarpur corridor and said that the step would help a lot in normalizing the strained relations between Pakistan and India. He said people of Kashmir, especially the members of Sikh community, are quite ecstatic over the development. He said the move would help the Sikhs from India to visit their different religious places in Pakistan.

“It is quite heartwarming that Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan proposed the opening of Kartarpur corridor and was reciprocated by the Government of India,” Jagmohan Singh Raina added.
