Sikh delegation calls on Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani

Islamabad: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has underlined the imperative of addressing the core issues with sincerity under resumed dialogue between Pakistan and India. He expressed his satisfaction that the dialogue between the two countries had resumed and meetings of Interior / Home / Commerce and Defence Secretaries have already taken place whereas Foreign Secretaries’ level talks are scheduled to take place during next week.

The Prime Minister emphasized the need of increased trade between the two countries as well as importance of people to people contacts particularly through enhanced exchanges of parliamentarians to bring the people of the two countries closer.

The Prime Minister was talking to a Sikh delegation led by Chaudhry Abhay Singh, Member of State Assembly of Haryana which called on him at the PM’s House today.

While referring to his recent visit to Mohali to witness Cricket World Cup’s Semi Final, the Prime Minister recalled his useful interaction with Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and other leaders of India. He reciprocated Indian Prime Minister’s keen desire to discuss all the issues between the two countries and stated that Pakistan and India must resolve all the core disputes to live peacefully and to divert their attentions towards addressing the common problems of poverty and socio-economic development.

The Prime Minister also underlined the need for proper maintenance and upkeep of religious shrines and other holy places of every religion in both the countries. He said that the pilgrims from the two countries should be facilitated during their visits to the respective shrines.

The members of the Sikh delegation expressed their complete satisfaction over the upkeep and good care of their Gurdwaras and holy places in Pakistan. They thanked the people and government of Pakistan for the hospitality.

The Sikh delegation included Mr Abhishek, Member of State Assembly of Rajhistan, Mr Mininder Singh, Mr Hara Singh and Mr Surinder Singh. Minister for Labour and Manpower Ch Wajahat Hussain, Minister of State for Housing and Works Mr M Raza Hayat Hiraj, Sardar Talib Hussain Nakai MNA, Sardar Asif Nakai MNA, Syed Sumsam Ali Shah Bukhari MNA and other senior officials were also present in the meeting.
