Sindh Chief Minister orders supersession of Fishermen Cooperative Society, appoint administrator

Karachi, July 16, 2015 (PPI-OT): Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has superseded Fishermen Cooperative Society (FCS) and appointed secretary Livestock and Fisheries department as its administrator for a period of six months with the directives to conduct a thorough inquiry into the affairs of the society.

The Sindh Chief Minister keeping in view serious complaints of mismanagement and irregularities in the society has ordered supersession of fishermen society with immediate effect and appointed Mr Noor Ahmed Leghari, Secretary Livestock and Fisheries Department as administrator for a period of Six month.

The chief minister has also directed the administrator/secretary Livestock and Fisheries department to hold inquiry into all previous matters of the society and furnish report with his recommendations/findings to him within 30 days. He has also directed the administrator/secretary to report him on the mechanism of payment of salaries and day to day expenses of the society.

The chief minister also directed the administrator to s report him regarding daily income of the society, mechanism of depositing the income amount in the bank account of the society on weekly basis. The Fishermen Cooperative Society (FCS) comprises on 15 directors, of them eight are nominated by the Sindh government and seven are elected by general body.

The initial inquiry conducted by assistant registrar Cooperative Societies-VI, Karachi in affairs of the FCS show that the director of the society Dr Nisar Morai is out of country, three directors have been arrested on the charges of irregularities and some other directors have gone underground. Practically, the board of directors does not exist. The inquiry report submitted on June 25, 2015 suggests that the society has lost its existence, therefore it may be supersede and an administrator may be appointed too run day to day affairs of the society.

It may be noted that Fishermen Cooperative Society was established in 1945. It has more than 6000 members all along the coastal belt and creeks of the province. It has a vast track record of working for welfare and betterment of fishermen and their families. The chief minister had already ordered in inquiry in the affairs of the FCS on July 10, 20015.
