Sindh Energy Minister Appeals to Prime Minister to Refrain from Taxing Solar Panels

Karachi, Sindh’s Energy Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah appealed to the Prime Minister of Pakistan to avoid imposing taxes on solar panels. This appeal comes amid suggestions from certain elements within the federal government to consider a tax on solar energy equipment. The minister argued that such a move could worsen the burden of inflation on the public.

According to Directorate General Information and PRs – Sindh, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah expressed concern about the high cost of electricity in the country and the lack of access to power in many regions. He stated that imposing taxes on solar panels would add to the economic strain, especially given the already high electricity bills and inflation. He emphasized that in these challenging circumstances, people should be supported if they are turning to solar panels to light their homes, not further burdened with taxes.

Syed Nasir Hussain Shah urged the Prime Minister to consider providing small and large packages to the public for the purchase of solar panels instead of imposing taxes. He suggested that such packages would alleviate the financial strain on lower-income families and incentivize the use of renewable energy sources. The minister further stated that the Sindh government aims to create affordable electricity through the establishment of solar parks in the province to help control energy costs.

He concluded by stressing the need for the federal government to not only reduce electricity prices but also offer solar panel packages to encourage their use during the hot summer months. The appeal underscores the importance of renewable energy in mitigating the financial burden on the public while promoting sustainability.
