Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal Decries Arrest as Assault on Democratic Institutions

New Delhi, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has denounced his recent arrest in connection with the Delhi Excise policy case as an attack on the opposition, democracy, federalism, and the integrity of elections in India.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Kejriwal is preparing to challenge his arrest before a Bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta on April 29. In his response to the Enforcement Directorate’s counter-affidavit, Kejriwal accuses the BJP-led central government of using the agency as a tool to suppress his Aam Aadmi Party and disrupt its campaigning efforts during the general election. He asserts that the arrest was politically motivated, highlighting the lack of direct evidence linking him to any financial misconduct.

In a related development, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his administration’s performance, pointing to unmet promises and adverse conditions that contradict Modi’s developmental pledges. Kharge reiterated the Congress party’s dedication to defending India’s constitutional democracy, tackling economic issues, and supporting discontented farmers. He also announced a delay in revealing Congress candidates for parliamentary seats in Uttar Pradesh, asking supporters to remain patient for a few more days.
