Karachi: The Sindh government has announced its commitment to support the private sector in launching electric vehicles (EVs) and establishing EV charging stations across the province. Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Sindh’s Energy and Planning and Development Minister, stated that the initiative aims to reduce fossil fuel consumption in the transport sector as part of a broader environmental strategy.
According to a statement by Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division), Minister Shah emphasized the government’s readiness to collaborate with private investors to enhance EV infrastructure. Speaking after a meeting with Yasir Bhambani, CEO of ADM Group, Shah reiterated the importance of transitioning the transport sector away from fossil fuels to lower Pakistan’s oil import bill and protect the environment.
The Sindh government plans to utilize its public-private partnership model to provide sites and facilities for EV charging stations in major cities and highways. Shah highlighted that the initiative aligns with directives from Pakistan Peoples Party Chair Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to address climate change challenges. Moreover, support will be extended to ensure uninterrupted power supply for EV charging through potential B2B arrangements and clean energy sources.
ADM Group, led by Bhambani, aims to establish over 600 EV charging stations in Sindh and plans to introduce EV assembly plants in Pakistan. The company intends to replace conventional fuel-powered vehicles, particularly in ride-hailing services, with mini-electric vehicles. ADM Group’s EV brand launch is contingent on the establishment of a 1,000-station charging network nationwide, in collaboration with local investors interested in urban charging infrastructure.
The Sindh government, alongside various departments, has committed to assisting private investors in EV manufacturing, marketing, and infrastructure development to promote sustainable transportation solutions.
