Sindh Governor offers personal house to ageing educationist

Karachi: Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan, as a goodwill gesture, has offered his personal house for Bibi Qureshi, the first woman to hold a PhD in Pakistan, and said the status she has attained in the field of education is a guiding light for society.

There were very few women who had acquired higher education, he said while talking to Bibi Qureshi when she was invited especially to the Governor’s House on Thursday in recognition of her services. Bilqis Edhi also accompanied Dr Bibi Qureshi.

The governor received and welcomed Dr Qureshi and said that the whole Pakistani nation was proud of her, and lauded her services in the field of education as well in the best educational institutions of the world.

He said her students today had attained top positions in the world and among various students was a former UN secretary-general, Kofi Annan.

Ebad advised the vice-chancellor, University of Karachi, to see to it that the youth benefited from the educational attainment of Bibi Qureshi.

Dr Qureshi thanked Ebad for inviting her to the Governor’s House, and said that if the governor wanted then he could make the country the Pakistan of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. She said that Pakistan was rich in natural resources, minerals, and agriculture, and did not need any external help.

Bilqis Edhi thanked the governor for inviting them to the Governor’s House, and said that the doors of the Governor’s House were open to the masses, which was highly appreciable. She said there were very few rulers who threw open their doors to the people.
