Sindh Police to Enforce Strict Measures Against Unlicensed Drivers in Karachi

Karachi: In a meeting held at the Central Police Office in Karachi, chaired by IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon, significant measures were discussed to enhance traffic law enforcement, focusing on drivers without licenses. Actions will include seizing vehicles of unlicensed drivers and issuing further directives to curb traffic violations.

According to Sindh Police, the meeting included high-ranking officials such as the Additional IG Operations, Karachi, DIGs, and SPs from various branches. The DIG DL & Training highlighted the efforts of the Driving License Branch in promoting online driving license facilities, which are being advertised through multiple channels. Research indicates a high number of motorcycle drivers lack licenses, contributing to traffic accidents. Since January, 28,685 challan tickets have been issued, with 12,548 targeting motorcycle drivers. Karachi Police have initiated over 35 programs to raise awareness on traffic rules, supported by campaigns on FM radio and social media.

The Additional IG Karachi emphasized the importance of community involvement in awareness campaigns to reduce traffic accidents. IG Sindh tasked the Accident Assessment Unit with investigating causes of accidents and making findings public. He instructed police to support traffic measures while reducing unnecessary road checks. The acquisition of driving licenses has been simplified and is now mandatory for police trainees. IG Sindh urged citizens to utilize online facilities for obtaining driving licenses.
