Sopore massacre: Gilani’s forum calls for shutdown on Jan 6

Srinagar, December 27, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the forum patronised by the veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani has called for a complete shutdown on January 6 in Sopore town, Baramulla district, in memory of those killed in the Sopore massacre on January 6, 1993 by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel.

The forum in a meeting held with Syed Ali Gilani in chair in Srinagar decided to hold a seminar “UN resolution passed on January 5, 1949” on January 5, at Hyderpora in Srinagar. It has also decided to organise a special prayer meeting at Jamia Masjid in Sopore after Zuhr prayers for Sopore martyrs on January 6,1993.

Addressing the meeting, Gilani, referring to the court martial of troopers involved in Machil fake encounter, said: “There is no guarantee that those involved in this incident will be dealt as law demands.”

He said that it was pressure from the media and human rights organisations that court martial for men in uniform was announced otherwise there were many more such incidents in which thousands of innocents were mercilessly killed by forces. He demanded investigation of all such cases by War Crime Tribunal of United Nations. “New Delhi being a party to Kashmir dispute cannot be trusted”, he added.
