Sopori among 23 detainees shifted to Haryana jails JI IOK denounces brutal move

Srinagar, November 19, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the authorities shifted as many as twenty three Kashmiri detainees including ailing Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori from Kotbhalwal and Kathua jails in Jammu to jails in Haryana in India. Jamaat-e-Islami of occupied Kashmir in a statement issued in Srinagar while terming the move as a harsh step demanded the shifting of these political detainees from Jammu to the Valley, instead, to facilitate their near and dear ones to meet them and expedite the trials going on against them in different courts in the Valley.

“The High Court of the occupied territory has long back declared the shifting of any detainee outside Jammu and Kashmir ultra vires and a violation of the rights of detainees but despite this, the governor administration has shifted these political detainees outside the territory ignoring the High Court verdict thereon,” the statement said.

“In addition to these detainees, a number of political leaders including three women leaders of Dukhtaran-e-Millat – Aasiya Andrabi, Naheeda Nasreen and Fahmeeda Sofi – who are lodged in Tihar Jail Delhi though the case filed against them is based on an FIR basically registered in a police station of the valley and their trial could have been conducted in a court of the valley but under a policy of political vendetta, their trial has been given to a court in Delhi by NIA which is a blatant violation of the fundamental human rights,” the JI deplored.

The Jamaat strongly condemned the shifting of twenty three detainees to Haryana jail and impressed upon the administration to shift them back to the valley. Meanwhile, Sajjad Ahmad, the son of ailing APHC leader Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori told media in Srinagar that Kotbhalwal jail administration had informed that his father had been shifted a jail in Haryana.
