Standing Committee on Commerce meets under Siraj Muhammad Khan

Islamabad, April 21, 2014 (PPI-OT): A meeting of the Standing Committee on Commerce held today in Parliament House in Committee Room No. 7, under the Chairmanship of Mr. Siraj Muhammad Khan, MNA regarding briefing on National Tariff Commission (NTC) and briefing on Pakistan Institute of Trade and Development.

The Chairman, National Tariff Commission (NTC) briefed the Committee about the functioning and performance of National Tariff Commission. NTC resolve the matter between Traders and Importers. NTC advised the Government about the improving its competitiveness and promoting export from Pakistan, recommend proposal of Tariff measures and also made recommendations from removal of Tariff anomalies relating to over 1000 tariff lines in several budget proposals.

The Director General of Pakistan Institute of Trade and Development briefed the Committee that there was no specialized training Academy like all other occupational groups of Civil service. It was deemed essential by the Ministry of Commerce at that time to establish this institute for specialized training of the Commerce and Trade Group Officers.

The Status of the institute is autonomous body under the administrative control of Ministry of Commerce having its own Board of Governors headed by the Minister for Commerce and Secretary Commerce as Vice Chairman of the Board.

The meeting was attended by Choudhry Muhammad Shahbaz Babar, Ch. Asad-ur-Rehman, Mr. Muhmmad Pervaiz Malik, Mr. Waseem Akhtar Shaikh, Mian Muhammad Rasheed, Ms. Tahira Aurangzeb, Ms. Shahzadi Umerzadi Tiwana, Dr. Mehreen Razaqaue Bhutto, Mr. Nazir Ahmed Bughio, Ms. Sajida Begum, Ms. Tahira Asif, Mr. Sanjay Perwani, Alhaj Shah Jee Gul Afridi MNAs, besides seniors Officers from Ministry of Commerce.
