Islamabad: The Standing Committee on Science and Technology convened its fourth meeting at the Parliament House in Islamabad, with Khawaja Sheraz Mehmood, MNA, presiding. The session’s focus was a briefing by the Chairman of the Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) on its activities, objectives, and achievements over the past three years.
According to National Assembly of Pakistan, the committee expressed satisfaction with the PCSIR’s presentation and stressed the importance of making the outcomes of PCSIR’s projects and research accessible to the public. The PCSIR Chairman described the council as Pakistan’s largest public sector research and development organization, comprising 17 laboratories and units, alongside six technical centers nationwide. The PCSIR’s mandate involves fostering scientific and technological research to assist in the growth and development of industries across Pakistan.
The PCSIR has been pivotal in import substitution and boosting exports by enhancing production and technological processes in both public and private sectors. The Chairman and committee members commended the PCSIR Chairman for his efforts in revamping the organization and accepted an invitation to visit the PCSIR research complex in Lahore to observe recent technological advancements. The committee recognized PCSIR’s contributions to human resource development, benefiting academic institutions.
The meeting saw participation from MNAs Ms. Shahnaz Saleem Malik, Mr. Irfan Ali Laghari, Mr. Khuram Shahzad Virk, Mr. Ghous Muhammad, and Mr. Muhammad Moazzam Ali Khan, alongside senior officials from the Ministry of Science and Technology and PCSIR.
