Strike in Islamabad town on Qazi Nisar’s martyrdom anniversary

Srinagar, June 19, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, complete shutdown is being observed in Islamabad town and adjoining areas to commemorate the 25th martyrdom anniversary of noted Islamic scholar, Qazi Nisar Ahmed, and against the recent spate of killings by Indian troops in the district.

Call for the shutdown has been given by the Jammu and Kashmir Ummat-e-Islami. All shops, business establishments and schools are closed while traffic is off the road in Islamabad town. Paying rich tributes to the founder of Ummat-e-Islami, Qazi Nisar Ahmed, the party spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar said, “The best tribute to the martyrs is to work for fulfillment of their mission.”

Qazi Nisar was killed by unknown gunmen on this day in 1994 in Bun Dialgan area of Islamabad district. Pertinently, the Chairman of Ummat-e-Islami Qazir Yasir continues to remain in illegal detention under black law, Public Safety Act, in a Jammu jail. Meanwhile, a team of Ummat-e-Islami leaders addressing a press briefing condemned the brutal crackdown on the resistance leadership and the tactics being used by the Indian authorities to malign the pro-freedom leadership.

“Our religious leaders are summoned to army camps and police stations and barred from offering Friday prayers particularly in South Kashmir areas of Turkwangam, Litter, Awantipora, Nagbal and Moshwara,” they said. The leaders demanded release of all illegally detained Hurriyat leaders and activists including Muhammad Yasin Malik, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, Masarrat Aalam Butt, Qazi Yasir, Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo, Aijaz Noori, Sarjan Barkati, Khurshid Ahmed, Muhammed Shafi Shariyati, Ghulam Qadir Butt and Pirzada Muhammad Ashraf.
