Successful running of Pak Business Express points that private sector has ability to turn loss making public sector ventures into profit earning entities: Sohail Lashari

Lahore, February 04, 2014 (PPI-OT): Pak Business Express on Tuesday celebrated second anniversary of its successful operations between Lahore and Karachi.

LCCI President Engineer Sohail Lashari was the Chief Guest while Chief Executive Officer of the Business Express Zafar Iqbal Chaudhry, Director Mian Shafqat Ali and Chief Operating Officer Ejaz Ahmad and a large number of people belonging to different walks of life attended the function.

Speaking on the occasion, the LCCI President Engineer Sohail Lashari said that successful running of the Pak Business Express makes the point that the private sector has the ability to turn loss making public sector ventures into a profit earning entities.

He expressed the optimism that the days are not very far when Pakistan Railways would be at par with other railways in the region. The LCCI President said the government should encourage ventures like Pak Business Express and should give relief to the private sector when they face any kind of problem.

He said that two years back, when the Business Express venture was launched, nobody had the idea that it would meet such a big success and earn the confidence of the travelers. He said that the train has attained the status of role model as no other train is contributing such a big revenue to Pakistan Railways.

Mian Shafqat Ali said that the success of Pak Business Express had added a new page to public-private partnership (PPP). He said that the very objective behind this venture was revival of PR and bringing back the lost glories once attached to it.

He said that Pak Business Express has so far spent a huge amount to ensure comfort to passengers from buying tickets to their destination. Pak Business Express spent a big amount to reduce travel time between Lahore and Karachi. It is the only train that is travelling in between Lahore and Karachi in record time, he added.

“Time was the biggest issue for the train passengers and the management of Pak Business Express has focused on this issue vigorously and this is the only reason that the occupancy of this private sector run train is improving with every passing day.” He said that the success of Pak Business Express has opened up new doors of Public-Private Partnership.
