Karachi, June 16, 2012 (PPI-OT): An eight (8) member delegation of All Karachi Tajir Ittehad led by its Chairman Mr. Ateeq Meer called on Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah at Chief Minister House. The meeting was attended among others by Sindh Information Minister Mr. Sharjeel Enam Memon, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Syed Sohail Akbar Shah, I.G Police Sindh Syed Mushtaq Ahmed Shah, Deputy Director General Rangers Sindh Brig. Muhammad Rafique Khan, Principal Secretary to C.M Agha Jan Akhtar, Additional I.G Police Karachi, traders – Mr. Jameel A. Paracha, Mr. Ansar Baig Qadri, Mr. Muhammad Ahmed Shamsi, Mr. Sharjeel Goplani, Mr. Sabir Fancy, Mr. Zubair Ali Khan and Mr. Ismail Lalporia.
Chief Minister Sindh speaking on the occasion said that it is prime duty of Police, Rangers and law enforcing agencies to control the law and order in the province particularly in Karachi. He said that Police and Rangers have already been directed to curb the menace of criminals, extortionists, robbers and anti-state elements with iron hand, while all preventive and precautionary measures be adopted to maintain the peaceful atmosphere in the economic hub city – the Karachi.
Syed Qaim Ali Shah listening to the problems, proposals and suggestions by Chairman AKTI assured the traders and businessmen that a comprehensive plan has been prepared to combat the situation, eradicate the network of criminals and Bhattakhors; and bring the city under complete normalcy as early as possible.
He said that provincial government will provide compensation to legal heirs of those traders and businessmen who had become victims of terrorists/criminals, for which the All Karachi Tajir Ittehad will furnish details with FIR’s on their letter head.
He said that those applications will be sent to the Chairman of respective commission for the year 2012 incidents. Regarding demand to provide arms license to traders and businessmen, the Chief minister Sindh directed the ACS (Home) to issue arms license through trade bodies.
Syed Qaim Ali Shah informed the traders that two separate complaint cells are functioning one at Chief Minister House with toll free No.919 and the other at I.G Police Sindh (CPO) Office. Besides, CPLC and National Crisis Management Cells are also functioning to control the crime and Bhattakhori from Karachi.
Chief Minister Sindh fully assured that with concerted efforts, the confidence of the people of Karachi at large and the traders and businessmen particularly will be restored soon, while it will be ensured that lives and properties of people are fully protected. He said that there will be consultation and coordination with all trade and business bodies and no gap will be allowed.
Syed Qaim Ali Shah directed the I.G Police Sindh that staff posted at pickets and police chowkies should not be shifted and office bearers of trade bodies be consulted for any change. He also directed the I.G Police Sindh to make full efforts for safe recovery of abducted traders, who have been kidnapped for ransom.
Syed Qaim Ali Shah added that traders can approach the C.M House at any time and Principal Secretary to C.M Agha Jan Akhtar will be the Focal Person for contact and coordination. Earlier, the Chairman of AKTI Mr. Ateeq Meer presented demands, proposals and suggestions. He said that the prompt and quick response to the affected traders and businessmen of Jodia Bazar incident by PPP government will always be remembered.
He also assured the Chief Minister Sindh about cooperation and support, and hoped that the government will provide peace and tranquility in the Karachi. I.G Police Sindh informed that under a new plan, the strategy has been evolved under experience and current situation.
He informed that 500 police personnel have been added and arranged from other parts of the province. Syed Mushtaq Ahmed Shah assured that staff at various police pickets and chowkies will be further improved particularly in old city trade centres, while surveillance cameras 1000 in No. are being installed soon in various localities, trade commercial centres and business markets.
He said that those cameras are being tested and will be functional within few days. Deputy Director General Rangers Sindh Brig. Muhammad Rafique Khan informed the steps taken against extortionists and said that rangers have established seven (7) Crime Reporting Centres in various localities i.e Landhi, Korangi, Bin Qasim, Nazimabad and two centres at site areas.
He said that the Rangers received 33 complaints from Oct: 2011 to March 2012 and all were addressed. He added that the during concerted efforts from 1st June to 16th June, 2012, 11 Bhatta Khors have been arrested, while during various raids, big quantity of arms and ammunition have been recovered.
Sindh Information Minister Mr. Sharjeel Inam Memon, ACS (Home) and others also spoke in the meeting. Chief Minister Sindh in the end thanked the traders and businessmen for their cooperation and appreciation that the criminals and culprits will be soon apprehended with proofs and evidences. He also assured that the locators will soon be installed which will be beneficial for detecting the locations of criminal.
He also directed to form a committee comprising of I.G Police Sindh, D.G Rangers Sindh and ACS (Home) to consider and implement the proposals of traders body so as to end the fear from masses and, courage and dare is encouraged among people particularly the traders and businessmen. He said that the law and order meeting will soon be held to take appropriate step for curbing the crime from city.
