Tetra Pak Unveils AI-Enabled Smart Manufacturing for Pakistan’s F and B Sector

Karachi: Tetra Pak has introduced its innovative Automation and Digitalisation portfolio, the Tetra Pak® Factory OS , at the Gulfood Manufacturing event in Dubai. This new technology aims to revolutionize food and beverage production by offering modular, open, and scalable smart factory solutions. The initiative is expected to pave the way for AI-ready factories, significantly enhancing efficiency in Pakistan’s food and beverage (F and B) sector.

A recent study by Tetra Pak reveals that factories with advanced automation achieve a 20% increase in overall equipment effectiveness, a 45% reduction in product waste, and 20% fewer packaging line stoppages compared to their less automated counterparts. However, many producers face challenges in adopting automation due to a lack of digital expertise and the scarcity of comprehensive solution providers with industry-specific knowledge.

The Tetra Pak® Factory OS aims to address these challenges by integrating advanced technologies with food and beverage expertise. This integration is designed to help producers manage cost pressures, achieve sustainability objectives, and transition towards AI-driven manufacturing.

In Pakistan, the F and B manufacturing sector is currently grappling with rising energy costs, outdated equipment, and limited access to digital tools, all of which impede operational efficiency. These issues are particularly pressing for dairy and beverage producers, who are heavily reliant on energy-intensive processes.

Energy shortages and unreliable supply further constrain industrial output, increasing production costs. The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority’s (NEPRA) State of Industry Report 2024 highlights significant under-utilization of generation capacity and transmission losses, impacting both consumers and industries. For continuous-process sectors like F and B manufacturing, adopting AI-enabled smart-factory platforms such as Tetra Pak’s Factory OS can enhance energy monitoring, predictive control, and waste reduction while improving resilience against supply disruptions.

Awais Bin Nasim, Managing Director of Tetra Pak Pakistan, emphasized the potential growth of the country’s F and B industry. He noted that challenges such as high energy consumption, supply disruptions, production inefficiencies, and data fragmentation are hindrances to progress. However, solutions like Tetra Pak® Factory OS offer the potential to transform factory operations, enabling manufacturers to make data-driven decisions that promote efficiency, reduce waste, and support sustainability goals.

The Tetra Pak® Factory OS is designed for flexibility and scalability, allowing F and B producers to implement automation and digitalization at their own pace and adapt solutions to their specific needs. While Tetra Pak® Factory OS is being rolled out globally, its goals are particularly aligned with the needs of Pakistan’s F and B industry, where there is a growing push towards energy-efficient, digitally connected, and sustainable manufacturing practices.
