Karachi: The Annual Function of Bazm-e-Kiran, an organization engaged in fighting waywardness in society was held at Defence Central Library. The speakers highlighted the rapidly spreading trend of waywardness in youth, which was eroding the vitals of society and suggested ways and means for countering the menace effectively.

Mr Khalid-ul-Aziz, Honorary Secretary General of the Organization chalked out the salient aims and objectives of the Bazm-e-Kiran Society, which included efforts to discourage materialism in society, to strengthen the family value system with emphasis on respect for elders and women and to fight the onslaught of western culture which was leading to increasing tendency of excessive smoking, alcoholism drug culture in our society.

Col (R) Ather Ali Khan, the convener of Bazm-e-Kiran, delineated the details of the efforts made by the Society to prevent waywardness in youth, which included interaction of Society members with young offenders of Juvenile Jail and a number of other welfare measures for their welfare and rehabilitation.

The President of the Organization Mr. Zafar Iqbal said that rehabilitation of youngsters who unfortunately get involved in bad habits was of immense importance for developing a peaceful and progressive society. He added that Bazm-e-Kiran was planning to eradicate street crimes through the establishment of ‘Skill Development Facility’. He said that a Technical Workshop for juvenile was already functioning in this regard since the last two years.

The keynote speaker, Lt Gen (R) Moin uddin Haider in his speech highly appreciated the noble aims and objectives of the Organization. He said that waywardness in society was on a rise mainly due to the ill effects of electronic and print medias. He added that for the benefit of young offenders the Organization had done an excellent job by introducing technical training in the children jail named as “Young Offenders” Industrial School (YOIS)”, which enabled the young offenders to become technicians and to earn a decent livehood as a part of their rehabilitation in society.

Justice Haziqul Khari, in his speech emphasized the fact that the future of a nation lies in the upbringing of the younger generation. He applauded the organization’s efforts in providing technical training workshops in Juvenile Jail. Sardar M. Yaseen Malik, former Advisor to Prime Minster of Pakistan, in his speech highlighted the problems of waywardness in a society which were becoming an endemic and said that their control was a challenging and daunting task.
