Traders demand carpeting of roads in markets

Islamabad, November 02, 2016 (PPI-OT): A delegation of Anjuman-e-Tajran, G-9 Markaz, Islamabad led by its President Jamil Ahmed Marwat visited Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry to highlight the issues being faced by the traders of the area. Jamil Ahmed Marwat said that G-9 Markaz was an important business center of the federal capital, but was facing many problems. He said that poor condition of roads was a major issue in the market as roads have not been carpeted for the last 8 years creating difficulties in movement of goods. He said footpaths were also in broken condition giving a bad look to the market. He said these issues were taken up with CDA many times with no remedial measures and stressed that ICCI should play its role in resolving them.

Jamil Ahmad Marwat said that due to the absence of rent law in Islamabad, rent disputes of traders were on the rise in the market as almost daily bailiffs were visiting for vacation of shops due to which traders were feeling insecure. He said that draft of rent control act was pending with a standing committee of National Assembly and emphasized that ICCI should pursue this matter vigorously with relevant committee for its early enactment into rent law. He said that CDA had approved filtration plant for G-9 Markaz in July 2012 but the facility was not provided as yet and traders were deprived of clean drinking water. He said streetlights in the market were not working giving rise to dacoities and thefts, especially of cars, mobile phone and other items. He said ICCI should cooperate in addressing these issues. Mian Muhammad Shabir Group Chairman, Raja Zulfiqar General Secretary, Raja Mazhar Javed Senior Vice President and other office bearers were included in the delegation.

Addressing the delegation, Khalid Iqbal Malik, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that most of the markets in the federal capital were devoid of basic facilities as CDA did not pay due attention to their better development. However, he said Sheikh Ansar Aziz, Mayor IMC and Chairman CDA was serious in resolving problems of business community and has formed two committees for this purpose. He hoped that these committees would focus on development of markets including G-9 Markaz to facilitate the growth of business activities. He assured the delegation that ICCI would work with CDA and other related organizations to address the key issues of trade and industry. Khalid Malik Senior Vice President, Tahir Ayub Vice President ICCI, Khalid Javed Chairman Founder Group, Ajmal Baloch President Anjuman-e-Tajiran Pakistan, Zafar Bakhtawari Vice President FPCCI, Muhammad Ijaz Abbasi former President ICCI and others also spoke at the occasion.
