Tramboo hails Manjoo’s statement on draconian laws in IHK

Brussels, May, 05 2013 (PPI-OT): The Chairman of Kashmir Centre Brussels, Barrister Abdul Majeed Tramboo has appreciated the recent statement of the UN Special Rapporteur, Rashida Manjoo, in which she advocated the withdrawal of all the draconian laws from occupied Kashmir.

Barrister Abdul Majeed Tramboo in a statement issued in Brussels said that the Indian government had already made the innocent people of the occupied territory to suffer by implementing draconian laws. “Thousands of people have been martyred and thousands are currently languishing in prisons. Moreover thousands of youth have disappeared and became the victims of extrajudicial killings due to the powers given to Indian forces by these laws,” he added.

Expressing his grave concerns over the deteriorating situation of human rights in occupied Kashmir, Barrister Tramboo said that Indian forces had crossed all the limits and were involved in grave human rights abuses in the territory. “They are continuing with their genocide policy in Kashmir. Forcibly entering into the localities and de-boarding passengers from their vehicles and beating them to the pulp has became a routine exercise for Indian forces is Kashmir,” he added.

Barrister Tramboo pointed out that the Kashmiri prisoners languishing in Indian prisons were facing the same situation. “Indian jails have been changed into the interrogation centers especially for Kashmiri prisoners. From the past two decades Kashmiri prisoners have always faced the wrath of the authorities,” he stated.

He appealed to the world human rights organizations especially Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and International Committee of Red Cross to raise their voice against the maltreatment and torturing of Kashmiri detainees in jails.
