Turkish envoy meets Secretary Defence

Islamabad, November 26, 2013 (PPI-OT): Turkish Ambassador, Sadik Babur Girgin called on Secretary Defence, Lt. Gen (Retd) Asif Yasin Malik here at the Ministry of Defence today. The ambassador has served in the department of the South Asia for 20 long years for which the Secretary Defence congratulated him on having a very rich profile.

Secretary Defence thanked the ambassador for the support/aid provided for the flood victims of Pakistan. He added that Pakistan immensely values its relations with Turkey which are deep rooted in common faith, historic and cultural linkages.

Secretary Defence highlighted the recently successful holding of 9th meeting of Pak-turkey High Level Military Dialogue Group (HLMDG) which took place at Ankara from 9th-10th October 2013 during which a number of issues were discussed.

He said that we perceive this relationship to be special as we have many common interests due to certain similarities in security perspectives and share objectives. Pak-Turkey relations are indeed envied by many countries as these are people to people, Government to Government and Military to Military.

He stressed that both countries have abiding interest of supporting each other for peace in the world at large. Both countries also have progressive outlook, similar ideological moorings and political orientation. For these reasons, we evince to see this relationship grow and prosper in every field.

He also added that Pakistan’s commitment to fight extremism and terrorism is deep and abiding. We deeply value Turkey’s steadfast support to us in our fight against this menace. Pakistan can benefit from Turkey’s experience in counter-terrorism strategies. The call ended on a high note where both sides committed to explore further areas of cooperation.
