UN chief urged to urgently intervene on Kashmir to avert big catastrophe

Srinagar, March 16, 2023 (PPI-OT): The All Parties Hurriyat Conference has called on UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres to urgently intervene for settlement of the Kashmir dispute to avert a big nuclear catastrophe in the South Asia region. In an interview with Kashmir Media Service, APHC spokesman warned that continued ignorance of the Kashmir dispute coupled with massive human rights violations at the hands of Indian occupation forces in the territory has increased the stake of a nuclear war in the region.

He said that the UN recognizes Kashmir as a dispute and consequently the responsibility to settle the issue in accordance with its resolutions squarely lies with the World Body itself. Not only the world community, he added, but both India and Pakistan have also pledged the right of self-determination to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. However, the Kashmiris continue to face the deprivation of the same right for the past over seven decades, he deplored.

The settlement of this dispute in accordance with the wishes of the Kashmir people should be the UN’s top priority, he stressed. Deploring the apathy of the international community, the spokesman said Jammu and Kashmir could not draw the world attention because it did not have oil reserves.
