UNESCO Director-General Condemns Killing of Pakistani Journalist Nasrullah Gadani

Islamabad, UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay has condemned the recent killing of journalist Nasrullah Gadani, who was fatally shot near Mirpur Mathelo in Sindh province on May 24.

According to United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, Gadani, a reporter for the daily newspaper Awami Awaz, was attacked by unknown assailants while en route from his home to the Mirpur Mathelo Press Club. He sustained three gunshot wounds and later died from his injuries. Gadani’s death marks the fourth journalist killed in Pakistan this May and the fifth since the start of the year. UNESCO continues to advocate for the safety of journalists worldwide, implementing various initiatives including capacity building and coordinating the UN Plan of Action on the Safety of Journalists and the Issue of Impunity to address these urgent concerns.
