UNGA Adopts Pakistan-Led Resolution on Access to Assistive Technology

Islamabad: The United Nations General Assembly has adopted by consensus a Pakistan-led first-ever resolution on ‘Access to Assistive Technology’.

According to Radio Pakistan, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, introduced the resolution for adoption. He highlighted that the resolution integrates access to assistive technology into the broader development and inclusion agenda. This recognition acknowledges the significant connections between assistive technology and essential aspects such as education, employment, health, social protection, and active societal participation.

Ambassador Ahmad emphasized that the resolution advocates for sustainable access to quality and affordable assistive technology. It encourages the establishment of national strategies and priority lists for assistive products, promotes research and innovation, and calls for stronger data and appropriate procurement systems. Moreover, it underscores the importance of involving individuals who utilize and benefit from assistive technology in meaningful ways.
