Union of Small and Medium Enterprises urges Prime Minister to extend amnesty deadline and adopt friendly attitude

Karachi, June 13, 2018 (PPI-OT): The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) has urged the caretaker Prime Minister (PM) Justice (R) Nasir ul Mulk to extend the last date of filing amnesty upto 31st July 2018 to facilitate the citizens and make the scheme a success by collecting maximum declarations.

President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver appreciated the steps taken by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) although a little late in creating awareness by sending SMS stating that to retain mental peace, social stature and avoid financial loss the person must declare under the amnesty scheme.

This message definitely needs to add a passionate appeal stating that the beloved country needs the money and for the love of the country one needs to bring back the money and/or pay the amount as prescribed needless to state that the business community knows very well that Pakistan is their motherland and their safe haven.

In fact all classes of people would give their life for the country and money is not more important than the beloved country. The finance ministry must adopt a friendly attitude and make a strong passionate appeal as an appendix to the amnesty. Only then will it succeed, mere warnings and threats will not work. The FBR is capable no doubt of collecting information under the sharing agreement but as one senior lawyer said it is capable but not efficient.

Thaver said due to the holy month of Ramadhan and the forthcoming holidays it is advisable and wise to extend the date as believers were and are involved in prayers and may not be able to make arrangements. Besides wisdom demands good and sufficient time be given for such declarations and liquidation of funds.

Many were actually waiting for the ruling of the Supreme Court and now that the matter is clear it is necessary that the FBR gets into gear and extend time and explain the benefits to the prospective beneficiaries. The Union has advised all the big and the small to avail the benefits under the scheme and enjoy peace of mind and satisfaction of contribution to the cause of building the country.
