Karachi: The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) has announced a comprehensive checklist aimed at enhancing the emergency readiness of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) across Pakistan. The initiative underscores the need for these businesses to be equipped to protect their workers and maintain operations during unforeseen events requiring medical care and shelter.
Zulfikar Thaver, President of UNISAME, emphasized the significance of implementing safety measures to safeguard staff and ensure business continuity. The checklist recommends that SME units maintain first aid kits, fire extinguishers, portable lamps, and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems. Additionally, alternative energy sources should be readily accessible.
UNISAME advises the continuous availability of potable drinking water and energy biscuits at unit help desks. To ensure seamless production, SME units are encouraged to stock adequate raw and packing materials. They are also urged to keep logistics operations in a state of readiness, conducting prior checks as necessary.
The organization highlights the importance of having contact information readily available for workers, local police stations, civil defense, and emergency helplines. This initiative aims to ensure that SMEs are well-prepared to handle emergencies efficiently and effectively.
